In a disused sanitary-ware basement, The Temperance Seven began their quest to promote all things British – cricket, steam trains, real ale and jazz music. At the beginning of the 60’s, carrying this philosophy through the land, the band was brought to the attention of one Sir George Martin, a producer for Parlophone Records. Intrigued by the prospect of getting their eccentric sound recorded, Sir George cleverly placed them around one microphone in an attempt to simulate a recording from the 1920’s.
Not only did this recording prove to be successful but the resultant “You, You’re Driving Me Crazy” gave Sir George his first number one hit.
Since then the orchestra has survived hurricanes, blizzards and floods in their endeavour to bring their band of musical mayhem to many people throughout the globe …. and now Heswall!
